When one turns south from Argyle, Georgia on highway 84, and travels ten miles, he or she comes to a place that appears as if it should not be there. There are few places on this earth that give such peace and rest; and Antioch is one of those places. A circuit riding preacher named Irwin Booth came from South Carolina to the wiregrass area of Georgia to establish churches. One of these churches was Antioch.
You will feel God here as have many, many before you. As one preacher was preaching in the pulpit, one of the members said he actually saw an Angel sitting behind the preacher while the Gospel was being spoken. He appeared to remain with the people while they worshiped that day. Here you will feel how those of yesterday worshipped God. The floor was at one time a clay floor, and the pulpit was also made of clay. Words of comfort and moments of peace have entered into the hearts of people sitting in this house of God. May you, as John Wesley, find that your heart is “strangely warmed.”
